The WCIT Charity received over 170 requests in the first quarter of the year, so it was a tough choice to select two projects from such an extensive list of worthwhile causes.

The two successful charities were First Star Scholars and the Digital Poverty Alliance.

First Star Scholars’ University Aspiration Project will support young people from care in achieving academic potential and progressing to higher education. Providing the appropriate tech for their students will be critical in addressing the unique challenges faced by these disadvantaged youths.

The Digital Poverty Alliance project will address the three key areas of digital exclusion: device access, internet connection and digital confidence. The organisation will distribute refurbished laptops to individuals and families in need which, in tandem with Westminster’s free OpenRoaming Network, will enable people to study, apply for jobs, access virtual services and more. The wraparound project will also include vital digital skills training.
