Learn and Thrive is a charity which allows learners with Down’s syndrome and other special educational needs to access specialist support through free digital tools and video learning. Last autumn, they received a grant from the WCIT Charity to co-produce a new module, Being Safe Online. They worked with a group of young people with learning disabilities, plus experts in fields such as filming and editing and Makaton signing, to plan, script and produce the module. As well as creating an important resource available to thousands of learners nationwide, the project gave eight young people with Down’s syndrome valuable work experience in presenting, filming, scripting and editing. They also learnt how technology could be adapted to support them.
