Watford Sheltered Workshop has worked with people with learning disabilities for nearly 60 years. Last year, it received funding from the WCIT Charity to deliver basic to intermediate IT training for its service users, who face immense challenges on a daily basis. IT can be confusing for many of them, but with patience and perseverance the organisation is able to build up their IT literacy bit by bit.
The development that Watford Sheltered Workshop provides is not something that leads to exam grades; rather to small, gradual steps towards enhanced living, independence and wellbeing for some of the most vulnerable people in society.
Among the successes achieved last year were a number of service users who were able to transition to mainstream employment thanks to the skills they had learnt.
