We were delighted to open the Hammersmith Academy in 2011, a newly built secondary school co-sponsored with the Mercers’ Company, which is accessible to local students of all abilities. Our Charity was instrumental in securing the funding for building the school, with WCIT members donating over £1million to this cause. We continue to work with the Academy, hosting events where the students can meet WCIT members and learn more about careers in IT.
The WCIT Charity has financially supported many of Lilian Baylis Technology School’s initiatives, including donating over £50,000 for a complete IT infrastructure revamp. Members of the WCIT have implemented a mentoring programme for pupils, which provides them with access to senior mentors from across the world of IT. The WCIT Charity also hosts events where the students can meet WCIT members and learn more about careers in IT.
We have been a long-term partner of AbilityNet and have supported many of its programmes. Recently, we have been a sponsor of the annual Tech4Good awards, which are open to any business, charity, individual or public body in the UK that invents or modifies digital technology to improve other people’s lives.
As a result of a partnership between WCIT and the Royal Masonic Trust for Boys and Girls, Lifelites now supports over 10,000 children with life limiting conditions every year, bringing them magical, life-changing technology and giving them opportunities to do things of which they never dreamt.
