The business case for AI

15 March 2021

On 22 February 2021 AI4C held another in their series of interesting Events but this time on AI Business Cases – are they different and how to get them right.  Attended by both AI4C Charity Members and WCIT Members there was lashings of practical advice on offer with insights from three great speakers:

  • Geoff Balmont MD of consulting firm Ki-Technology Ltd. Former Missing People digital lead on their AI based chatbot aimed at assisting vulnerable people
  • Andrew Hubbard, CEO of Ai-London (WCIT Liveryman)
  • Danielle Green, until recently the Chair and Acting CEO of CITA (Charity IT Association). (WCIT Liveryman).

Their presentations focused on bringing down to earth the expectations that AI solutions seem to conjure up and as a result how to create a cracking business case.  Andrew led off with a process for creating the business case itself, then Danielle followed with a rather daunting (but real) list of risks that need to be assessed including those peculiar to AI and the Charity Sector plus an AI Readiness Litmus Test.   Geoff was left to reignite the enthusiasm for an AI solution with his insight into the benefits, sometimes hidden, that could be achieved together and the resultant untapped funding sources.

The event was rounded off by some great questions from the audience.
